Step 1: Start by telling us about your dispute.

You’ll submit a short intake form (and any relevant documents) so we can understand the dispute, the people involved, and what a good outcome would look like for you.


After you submit, one of our dedicated intake specialists will follow up within 24 hours to assess your situation and determine whether Smarter Mediation is the right fit.

What happens next:

1. Our Intake Team Will Reach Out

Within 24 hours, a member of our intake team will contact you to discuss your dispute in more detail. This conversation helps us understand the situation, confirm whether Smarter Mediation is a good fit, and answer any immediate questions you may have.


During this step, we’ll clarify the issues involved, discuss timelines and priorities, and help determine the appropriate mediation tier. There is no obligation at this stage—our goal is simply to ensure the process is appropriate and set you up for success.

2. Coordinating With the Other Party

If mediation is a good fit, the next step is engaging the other party. Our intake team will walk you through the available options and help determine the best approach.


We can support you in inviting the other party to participate, provide neutral information about the process, or contact them directly on your behalf. The goal is to introduce mediation in a clear, non-adversarial way that encourages participation and sets the tone for productive resolution.

3. Secure Setup & Payment

Once both parties agree to move forward, you’ll be set up in our secure client portal. This is where everything related to your case will be managed.


Through the portal, you can:

  • Complete payment securely
  • Upload and review relevant documents
  • Communicate with your mediator
  • Schedule sessions and track progress

4. Begin Resolving Your Dispute

After setup is complete, your mediator is assigned based on experience, availability, and the nature of the dispute. From there, the mediation process begins.


Your mediator will take the lead in guiding the process—conducting individual and joint sessions as appropriate, managing communication, and keeping the focus on resolution. Throughout the process, the mediator applies the SMART Method to ensure the mediation remains efficient, balanced, and outcome-driven.
